Description: This second edition provides students a programmed approach to learning and understanding medical language, either independently or in a classroom setting.
Purpose: The author provides students with self-directed study for learning the origins of medical terms and the construction of these terms when applied to understanding medical records.
Audience: This book was written to prepare students for medical record analyses in the healthcare field. Students can understand how professionals communicate with each other, as well as understand written orders and prescriptions. The author also familiarizes students with the body systems and medical specialty areas.
Features: The first two chapters provide the basics to comprehend the healthcare language using the initial components, using prefixes/suffixes and combining forms that  make up each medical term. Chapters 3 thru 15 covers terms associated to body systems along with the explanations of how medical terms are related, combining forms related to diagnoses symptoms, tests, procedures, surgeries, and therapies. Included is a CD-ROM containing activities to reinforce learning as well as chapter module exercises for a variety of learning toolswhich provide additional reinforcement so students can choose what fits theirlearnig style. The second edition provides many added features such as color illustrations, an online  faculty resource center for instructors, and practice exercises in each chapter to accommodate different learning faculty resource learning styles.
Assessment: This book is well written and easy to understand for anyone going into healthcare and it provides many learning tools to meet different learning styles. It will provide excellent instruction for anyone going into healthcare.
